Local Utility Incentives: BGE / PEPCO / Delmarva / SMECO featured image

Many local utilities offer incentives to encourage consumers to use less energy at home. These incentives are often rebates for trading in or purchasing a new, energy-efficient appliance, such as a refrigerator or oven.

Here we summarize local utility incentives from the major utilities in the greater Washington, DC-Baltimore region. Click on a link to go to a utility’s website for the latest incentive information.

BGE (Baltimore Gas & Electric)

Delmarva Power

  • Energize Delaware: Delmarva Power promotes this program, which offers rebates of up to $200 for the purchase of an ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washer, dishwasher, room air conditioner, or gas water heater.
  • Home Energy Savings Program (Maryland): This initiative helps homeowners and businesses save energy and money. It includes:
    • Energy Wise Rewards: During the “peak demand” times of summer, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity usage by “cycling” central air conditioners throughout the region, averting power outages, and reducing the need for costly, new electrical infrastructure.
    • Lighting Program: Save on compact fluorescent light bulbs.
    • Appliance Rebate Program: Get rebates up to $300 when you buy certain energy-efficient appliances.
