The attic is one of the primary sources of air leakage in just about every house, allowing hot air to infiltrate into the house during the summertime, and letting warm, conditioned air to escape from the house during the wintertime. While most consumers think that insulation is all that is needed t o solve their attic issues, the truth of the matter is insulation does not stop air movement, it only slows it down. EDGE Energy’s attic weatherization techniques include a blower door guided air-sealing combined with insulation. Can you tell from the picture which house has not had their attic weatherized by EDGE? Hint: The one with no snow on the roof demonstrates how much heat is escaping from the attic.
How we fix your problem
Our trained weatherization specialists will do a thorough inspection of your attic and air-seal any places that air might leak through, including top plates, knee walls, pipe and wire penetrations, chase ways, etc. Next, we will install blown cellulose insulation up to recommended levels (R-49 or about 15 inches of cellulose), and insulate your attic hatch as well. If any duct-work exists in your attic space, we will also seal and insulate it if necessary, as well as installing attic ventilation. This is one weatherization technique that you can feel the results from right away!
