Duct Sealing
Over time, dust and dirt can accumulate in duct systems. If you have an older system, you may want to get it checked or cleaned.
Three out of four homes have leaky air ducts—and many of those duct systems leak more than half of their air! That’s a big problem, because it reduces your comfort and wastes both energy and money.
EDGE Energy provides both air duct cleaning and air duct sealing services. We are certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to perform these services to their standards.
Duct Cleaning Services
Before we begin a duct sealing job, we clean the ducts. First we remove the registers and, if necessary, cut a hole in the supply duct. We position a large vacuum and bag over a register and use a scrubber in the supply hole or air intake area to loosen dust and dirt. The vacuum then collects the debris. We do this at each register.
Duct Sealing Services
We provide two types of duct sealing:
- Manual Sealing—We seal duct joints (using mastic and foil tape) that we can access. We use only foil tape UL181B, which works well in all climate zones and meets Building Performance Institute standards. Manual sealing can be very cost-effective.
- Aerosol-Based Sealing—This method is best for inaccessible duct systems. Here’s how it works: After blocking off the registers, we pressurize the duct system and then spray a glue-like mist into your ducts. The mist particles bunch into holes in ducts just like platelets converge to clot and seal a cut in your body. The process can lower your duct leakage rate to below 3 percent!
