Field Technician I

Candidate will be traveling throughout DC Metro Region with weekly trips (eventually) to NC, DE, and PA. The role of the Field technician is to inspect and perform diagnostic air flow testing in residential homes – both new construction and existing.

Since the candidate will be interfacing with residential customers and building contractors, the candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills. There is required testing to become a licensed Field Technician under RESNET standards. A written and field test must be satisfactorily passed prior to any offer of full-time positions. The work is performed in the homes of residential customers and candidates must pass a criminal background check.

The candidate will be responsible for providing verification and written documentation that they are following program rules including but limited to:

JOB DUTIES: Field Technician I

  • Perform diagnostic blower door and duct leakage testing
  • Assuring that test equipment including blower doors and duct blasters are used properly, remain in good repair, and that testing results are accurate.
  • Take RESNET approved Field Technician class and pass the written and field tests
  • Perform safety and construction inspection checklists for the Energy Star program(RESNET)
  • Technicians follow proper communication protocols with customers.
  • Assuring that all appropriate energy efficiency measures such as light bulbs, shower heads and insulation are installed properly.​ The candidate will be traveling to residential job sites on a daily basis and will be providing written reports back to their Supervisor outlining and highlighting the performance of contracted energy technicians.
  • Effective and appropriate strategies are used to seal drafts and air leaks within the building envelope.
  • Background in building science or engineering is desirable along with good written and oral communication skills.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS: Field Technician I

NOTE: This is a nearly 100% travel position. Inspections will be scheduled appropriately from DE down to NC. Candidate must be willing to travel and spend overnights in these locations as needed. EDGE Energy is pursuing larger clients to add units to the Energy Star label, and these projects will increase the demand for our presence in these states.

  • HVAC repair or testing and/or construction industry experience a plus
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience required
  • College or Professional Trades degrees preferred
  • Prompt arrival to customer/client sites on time (or within an acceptable window),
  • Technicians are dressed appropriately and have visible photos IDs,
  • Technicians leave the workplace clean upon satisfactory completion of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with little supervision.
  • Internet experience: filling our word documents or entering data into pre-formatted spreadsheets.
  • High-speed internet access in the home to access schedules and send in completed reports
  • Strong email communication with ability to write English
  • Person will be responsible for providing their own reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Company vehicle maybe provided a few months after hire.
