Air leakage is a major source of energy loss as well as discomfort in many homes. Common areas of air leakage include kneewalls, recessed lights, attic hatches, windows and doors, flue and duct chase ways, vents, wiring holes, cantilevers, band and rim joists, etc. Besides the cost and comfort issues, air leakage also contributes to issues with indoor air quality by allowing moisture, mold and dust to enter inside conditioned space from the attic, crawlspace and outside.
Air-sealing (followed by insulation) remains the key to “Step 1” home energy efficiency. One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is adding insulation without air-sealing the envelope first. Insulation cannot stop air movement! In fact, fiberglass, cellulose, and the vast majority of insulation materials are designed as nothing more than a filter. Air is not “trapped” in the filter, it is just slowed. Over time, insulation will reflect this filtering effect by looking dirty.

To achieve Passivhaus certification, the homes have to achieve a minimum air tightness level of 0.60 ACH 50, which is five times “tighter” than the 3.0 ACH 50 required of new Maryland code-built houses. In this image, Robert Champ of...
Edge Energy responded quickly to my inquiries and provided clear answers. The technicians who oversaw the installation process were professional and I learned a great deal while interacting with them.
Edge Energy clearly prefers installing SunPower systems. They were professional and technically informed. They were reasonable and accommodating with contractural matters. The installation crews were polite and courteous. They did neat work and were very competent. They were extremely responsive to address problems that arose. I would recommend them without reservation. They put a good face on SunPower.
A friend recommended SunPower and Edge Energy and my expectations were exceeded. I have and will recommend both companies.
I was completely satisfied by Edge Energy. They have consistently designed and reliably installed strong performance energy innovations for my home. Indeed the only reason that I installed SunPower panels was due to their recommendation.
Edge Energy was excellent all around. Knowledgeable, friendly, willing to troubleshoot and correct issues that arose during the installation process.
