More and more homeowners throughout the US and the rest of the world are choosing to “go solar” than ever before. Solar is one of the cleanest renewable energy sources available. Many people overlook the fact that our sun is essentially a naturally occurring nuclear reactor, releasing tiny energy packets referred to as “photons” that travel 93 million miles from the sun to the earth in a shocking eight-and-a-half minutes.

Enough of these photons hit the planet each hour to theoretically power the globe for a solid year, which explains why so many people are choosing to go solar. EDGE Energy is a proud dealer of SunPower solar projects, and we’ll help you move further in the direction of energy independence than ever before.

Save Money, Help the Environment

Switching to solar energy is one of the best ways to save a sizeable amount of money on your electric bill each month. In many cases, true energy independence is possible, and because the energy generated by solar panels is the cleanest available, you can help to offset Co2 emissions by as much as 890,000 metric tons each year. SunPower is also working to create thousands of jobs in the solar space throughout the country, giving back to the economy and helping businesses move towards greener practices.

SunPower panels are capable of producing 60% more energy per square foot than traditional panels. With a lifespan of over 40 years, they’re capable of producing 70% of today’s energy well into the next century!

The Benefits of Solar Power

For those who aren’t quite sure whether or not solar is for them, it’s important to take a moment to look at the many benefits associated with installing solar panels. These include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Clean, Renewable Energy
  • Reduced Carbon Emissions
  • Low to Nonexistent Energy Bills
  • Available Tax Credits
  • Longevity of Systems Life

We know that many homeowners have questions about solar, which is why the team at Edge Energy is here to answer whatever concerns may come up before, during and after an installation.

Water Recycling Methods

There are many types of water uses inside and outside your home, and each one produces a specific type of waste water. Depending on whether it is greywater, blackwater, or stormwater, some of this waste water can be recycle and reused in other areas of your home, which conserves water and protects the environment and saves you money on your water bill.

Greywater

Greywater is waste water from handwashing, showering, or washing machines that can be recycled for other residential and commercial uses. When recycled it can be used for irrigation systems as well as toilet flushing and sometimes washing. Sometimes it requires some filtration or purification or storage before it can be recycled.

You can install a small greywater system in your home by with a small storage tank in your bathroom that will hold waste water from the sink or shower that can be used to flush the toilet.

If you’re interested in a larger greywater system you can choose to install a much larger cistern that can collect and recycle water for the whole house.

Blackwater

Blackwater is waste water from toilets and it is different from greywater in that it contains fecal matter. It is beneficial to keep blackwater separate from greywater because greywater can be recycled with little to no-purification necessary, whereas blackwater cannot.

Stormwater

Stormwater is water that originates as precipitation, and it can be collected or stored in order to be used at a later date. It does not go through a purification process and it is usually collected in rain-barrels of some sort and used at a later date when water is needed for landscaping or other outdoor watering activities.

Water Efficient Toilets

water saving toilet

The vast majority of the indoor water usage occurs in the bathroom, and the toilet is the area where improvements reap the greatest rewards. Allowing us to install a high dual flush toilet for your house can reduce the amount of water used by up to 75% for older model replacement.

Low Flow Showerheads

After the toilet, showers are the next largest user of water in the bathroom. We can easily swap out your old showerheads for low flow ones, which will cut down your water usage, without cutting down your shower time.

On-Demand Water Heating

Tankless-On-Demand

On-demand water heaters only heat water as it is needed, which saves both water and energy. Energy is saved by elimination of standby losses, and water is saved as there is no need to run it for a long time to heat up.

Faucet Aerators

Did you know that running a faucet for 5 minutes uses as much electricity as burning a 60 watt light bulb for 14 hours? According to the EPA, 3% of the United State’s electricity is used to purify, deliver, and treat residential water. When we install these aerators, the flow of the water is reduced (usually 50%) without reducing the pressure.

Smart Faucet

Now you can get the same results as a motion detection unit at a fraction of the cost. Smart faucets will save you money by only allowing water to come out of the faucet when something is placed underneath it.

Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater-Harvesting-1

Rainwater harvesting systems catch and store water for domestic use. This water can be utilized right away in all non-potable applications (which generally constitute 50% of indoor uses), and portable applications with proper treatment.

Front Loaded Washing Machines

High-efficiency washing machines can save large amounts of water. Not only do the front loading units use up to 50% of water as standard, top loading units, but they also are alot quieter. Less water used also means less energy to heat. Furthermore, rebates are typically available for them.
