Power Technician – Beltsville, MD

Duties:

  • Maintaining and repairing cranes and forklifts (up to 22 tons).
  • Setting up, maintaining and repairing microelectronics systems of cranes and forklifts; like load monitoring, diagnostics, operator interface functions, radio remote control, automated lifting sequences; among other components.
  • Supporting heavy machinery operations for solar panels installations.
  • Assisting in the inspection and test of electrical and microelectronics systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections, testing devices, and computer software.
  • Reassembling and testing equipment after repairs.
  • Assisting with adjusting, repairing, or replacing defective wiring and relays in ignition, lighting, air-conditioning, and safety control systems, using electrician’s tools.
  • Splicing wires with knives or cutting pliers, and solder connections to fixtures, outlets, and equipment.
  • Locating and removing or repairing circuit defects such as blown fuses or malfunctioning transistors.
  • Maintaining equipment service records.
  • Referring to schematics and manufacturers’ specifications that show connections and provide instructions on how to locate problems.
  • Assisting with the installation fixtures, outlets, terminal boards, switches, and wall boxes, using hand tools.
  • Assisting with the installation of new fuses, electrical cables, or power sources as required.
  • Cutting openings and drill holes for fixtures, outlet boxes, and fuse holders, using electric drills and routers.
  • Confer with customers to determine the nature of malfunctions.
  • Assisting with the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards, using drawings, schematics, and instructions, under the supervision of Master Technician.
  • Assisting to identify electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with photovoltaic (PV) installations.
  • Checking electrical installation for proper wiring, polarity, grounding, or integrity of terminations.
  • Assisting on testing and operating voltages to ensure operation within acceptable limits for power equipment, such as inverters and controllers.
  • Assisting on performing routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment.
  • Repairing or rebuilding equipment such as starters, generators, distributors, door controls, using electrician’s tools.
  • Estimating costs of repairs based on parts and labor requirements.
  • Measuring, cutting, and installing frameworks and conduit to support and connect wiring, control panels, and junction boxes, using hand tools.

Hours: 40hrs/wk.

Rate of Pay: $96,158.00 per year.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, marine transportation or related or foreign equivalent plus twenty-four (24) months of related experience in the job offered and twenty-four (24) months of experience in setting up, maintaining, and repairing the electrical and microelectronic system of cranes and forklifts.
