Is SunPower Back? Here’s What EDGE Energy Customers Need to Know

Over the past few months, a familiar name has resurfaced in the solar space: SunPower. Once considered a gold standard in residential solar, SunPower was known for premium equipment, robust warranties, and a vertically integrated customer experience. After filing for bankruptcy and closing its doors in 2024, many in the industry — and many homeowners — are left asking: Is SunPower really back?

As a former certified SunPower installer and long-standing solar provider in the Mid-Atlantic region, EDGE Energy is committed to helping homeowners separate fact from fiction. We’ve worked with thousands of customers on SunPower equipment and understand how confusing this new development can be.

Let’s be clear from the start: SunPower is not “back” in the way most people think. What you’re seeing is a rebranding—not a revival.

What Actually Happened?

In early 2024, a company called Complete Solaria acquired the rights to the SunPower name, logo, and intellectual property. In short, the brand changed hands. The original SunPower Corporation—the publicly traded company that once manufactured panels and supported long-term warranties—is no longer behind the scenes.

Instead, this is a new company operating under an old name. The acquisition did not include the assumption of existing customer warranties, service contracts, or corporate obligations from the previous SunPower entity.

What This Means for SunPower System Owners

This is the most important point:

The new “SunPower” does not assume responsibility for warranties or support contracts issued by the original SunPower Corporation.

If you’re a homeowner with a SunPower system and you’re hoping this rebrand means:

  • Your original SunPower hardware warranties are now back in force
  • The original manufacturer is resuming support
  • You can expect the same service levels and accountability from SunPower directly

That’s simply not the case.

However, if EDGE Energy installed your SunPower system, rest assured: we’re still here for you. We continue to honor our full workmanship warranties and will do everything in our power to help you navigate any manufacturer-related issues—even when they fall into the gray area left by the brand transition.

If your system was installed by another company that’s now out of business or unreachable, you may be considered a “solar orphan.” In these cases, EDGE has dedicated service programs and support plans to help fill in the gaps.

Why This Matters

The solar industry has seen a wave of bankruptcies, acquisitions, and rebrands over the past few years. These disruptions have left many homeowners confused and unsupported. When a company you trusted disappears or changes hands, it can feel like the rug’s been pulled out from under you.

This is why it’s critical to understand the difference between a revived name and a revived company. Just because the SunPower logo is back on mailers, ads, or websites does not mean the same people—or the same promises—are behind it.

EDGE Energy’s Position

EDGE Energy has spent nearly two decades building a reputation for honesty, technical excellence, and long-term customer care. As a former certified SunPower partner, we installed and supported countless SunPower systems before the company’s decline. And unlike many of our peers, we’re still here.

We want to be crystal clear: the recent rebrand is a strategic marketing move by Complete Solaria. It is not a comeback of the original SunPower Corporation. Homeowners should treat this as a new entity using a well-known name—not a resumption of your original warranty coverage or customer support.

If you’re not sure where you stand, we can help clarify your situation and present your options.

What You Can Do Now

Here’s how to protect yourself and your system, whether you were an EDGE customer or not:

  • Review your warranty documents. If EDGE installed your system, we still honor our workmanship warranty and will work with you to address hardware issues, even when the manufacturer won’t.
  • If another company installed your system, find out if they’re still in business. If they’re gone, you may be considered an orphaned customer. EDGE offers Solar Service Subscriptions to provide affordable, ongoing support. Contact us for details.
  • Schedule a system health check. All EDGE customers receive a free inspection after their first year. For non-EDGE customers, we offer affordable one-time assessments to check production, hardware integrity, and monitoring functionality.

Final Thoughts

The return of the SunPower name may look like a comeback—but it’s not. The brand may be familiar, but the company behind it is not the same.
